Ontario-Israel Industrial Collaborative Research Projects
Convergent Medical Technologies
Background:
The Convergent Medical Technologies Program will directly invest in
the growth of Ontario and Israeli companies that are in the convergent
medical technology sector and interested in pursuing collaborative research
and development (R&D) projects.
The program is jointly funded and delivered by the Canada-Israel Industrial
Research & Development Foundation (CIIRDF), htx.ca - The Health Technologies
Exchange (HTX), Ontario Centres of Excellence Inc. (OCE), and the Office
of the Chief Scientist in Israel.
The program provides the opportunity for funding support of up to 50%
of the cost of a joint R&D effort, provided it meets high standards
of technological/scientific quality and commercial promise. At least
50% of the project costs in each country must be borne by the respective
participants.
The program will fund joint R&D projects typically 24 months in duration
undertaken by a company in Ontario in collaboration with a company in
Israel. Collaborative projects involving academic research institutions
in Ontario are encouraged and may be eligible for additional support.
Typical project funding by the program will be in the range of CAD $300,000
to $500,000. Program funding to the companies is repayable from gross
sales derived from the sale or other commercial exploitation of the product
or process innovation resulting from the project.
The deadline for receipt of an Expression of Interest (EOI) is 25
January 2008, 17:00 local time.
All EOIs submitted will be reviewed by a panel of internal and external
reviewers, and those selected by the panel will notified by 18 February
2008. Full proposals will be due by 31 March 2008.
All proposals submitted will be subject to peer review by external
referees and ranked. A final decision on funding will be made by the
middle of
June 2008.
Eligibility
Companies from Ontario in collaboration with companies from Israel
for R&D projects in the convergent medical technologies sector are
eligible to apply. Collaborative projects involving academia are encouraged.
The program will facilitate partnership identification for companies
interested in participating in the program that have not identified
a counterpart partner in Ontario or Israel. To initiate partnership facilitation,
the Partner Search Form set out in Appendix A of the EOI must be completed
and submitted to Jennifer Woods, HTX, jwoods@htx.ca and Les
Abelson, CIIRDF,
lesabelson@ciirdf.ca. Identification of a partner may result in delay
beyond the timelines of this Call for Proposal. Where such a delay
is incurred, companies will be eligible to participate in subsequent
Calls
for Proposals.
