Electrovaya Inc.
Situated in Toronto, Canada, Electrovaya's co-founders Sankar Das Gupta
and Jim Jacobs began research into battery technologies in 1983. In 1996,
after the achievement of certain scientific milestones, Electrovaya was
formed to research, develop, manufacture and commercialize rechargeable,
lithium ion SuperPolymer™ battery technology. Electrovaya'a portable
power technology provides significantly higher energy density and, based
on its internal testing to date, longer run-times than any other rechargeable
batteries currently in commercial production.
Electrovaya has had tremendous success in various applications based
on the technology in consumer electronics, aerospace and green transportation.
Electrovaya is an OEM with its Scribbler™ Tablet PC, PowerPads®, and
is a development partnership with Microsoft. Recently, Electrovaya became
a prime contractor for NASA, providing battery power for astronaut life
support systems (Critical 1) NASA Missions. Electrovaya has also developed
a zero emission electric vehicle. The prototype vehicle recently completed
road trials winning the "Technology Award" and "Battery
Electric Vehicle Award" at the prestigious 2004 Tour de Sol, an
alternative transportation rally. The field included Toyota's hybrid
Prius, GM's hydrogen powered fuel cell and other vehicles.
Nomura Research of Japan, the preeminent battery analyst in the world,
identified Electrovaya's Lithium Ion Super Polymer Battery as having
the highest energy density in the world. Dr. DAs Gupta is now investigating
the second generation of this battery through an Ontario Centres of Excellence
Inc. collaborative research project with Dr. Alex McLean at the University
of Toronto.
"Our technology will enhance the performance and running time of
any product that requires portable energy from computers and cell phones
to camcorders and electric vehicles," explains Dr. Sankar DAs Gupta,
president and CEO of Electrovaya Inc. Total revenues of the Electrovaya
group of companies is currently reported to be $6 million dollars. "In
this technological age it's clear that a breakthrough in advanced battery
technology could have a profound change in the economy. The demand for
portable power comes from all sectors of the economy," stresses
Dr. Das Gupta.
