    TORONTO, MARCH 1, 2017 – The Ontario Government, through the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), is now accepting applications for two highly popular features of its annual Discovery conference: the Social Enterprise Zone (SEZ) and the Social Enterprise Pitch Competition. The Social Enterprise Zone will showcase 24 Ontario-based social enterprises, helping them make valuable connections to potential investors, partners and customers. The application deadline is March 24, 2017 at 12 noon, and applications can be made on the OCE Discovery website.

    The Ontario government today launched a new, $28.8-million challenge to help innovative start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ontario address public sector business and service challenges. The Small Business Innovation Challenge (SBIC) is part of the Ontario government’s Business Growth Initiative (BGI), and will be managed by Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) on behalf of the Ontario government. The SBIC will stimulate the growth of SMEs by supporting them in developing and demonstrating innovative technologies with the goal of these new solutions driving innovation in the public and private sectors.

    Canada ranks as the fourth-largest innovation hub in the world for cybersecurity with Ontario leading the country, concludes a report released today. Commissioned by Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) and the Toronto Financial Services Alliance (TFSA), the report states that Ontario has the potential to assume a more dominant leadership role in cybersecurity, given its current strengths in financial services and technology, if it takes immediate steps to seize the opportunity. The ranking is based on venture capital deals in the cybersecurity sector.
