Discovery 2016 keynotes will share insights on innovation, entrepreneurship and the sharing economy

Discovery 2016 will feature JB Straubel and Robin Chase as Keynote Speakers.

Once again, OCE’s Discovery has lined up world class keynote speakers who will inform and educate on issues that will be of great interest to show attendees.

This year, Discovery will welcome JB Straubel, a member of Tesla Motor’s founding team and the company’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO), and transportation entrepreneur Robin Chase, co-founder and former CEO of Zipcar.

Straubel appears on the Discovery main stage on May 9 in conversation with author, journalist and current RBC Sr. Vice President John Stackhouse. He will share his experiences in energy innovation and the business opportunities associated with clean tech and climate change.

Straubel is part of the founding team, along with Elon Musk, of Tesla Motors and manages the technical direction and engineering design of the Tesla products including battery technology, power electronics, motors, software, firmware and controls. He also created and manages such Tesla initiatives as: the Tesla Energy business which is providing grid storage for commercial utilities and residential consumers; the worldwide Tesla Supercharger network of fast DC chargers; and the Tesla Gigafactory which is leading the way toward increasing worldwide battery production and lowering electricity costs.

Chase, an entrepreneur, lecturer and the author of the 2015 book ‘Peers Inc.’, appears on Discovery’s main stage on May 10 bringing with her themes of the collaborative economy and the changing face of traditional economic models.

Chase is renowned in the transportation field. In addition to co-founding Zipcar in 2000 with Antje Danielson, Chase co-founded Buzzcar, a peer to peer car-sharing service in France and GoLoco, an online ridesharing community. She is currently co-founder and executive chairman of Veniam, a vehicle communications company building the networking fabric for the Internet of Moving Things. She is on the boards of Veniam, the World Resources Institute and Tucows. She has also advised on transportation policy while sitting on numerous boards and advisory councils at the federal, state and municipal levels as well as OECD’s International Transport Forum Advisory Board.

Discovery 2016 takes place May 9-10 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in the South Building.
