First Job

The First Job initiative moves talented people from academia to industry. It makes it possible for companies to improve their ability to innovate by recruiting talented young researchers with significant academic experience. These researchers bring leading-edge scientific knowledge that helps companies increase their competitiveness and productivity. Successful applicants receive a grant of 50% of the recruit's salary (up to $40,000); start-up companies are eligible for a grant of 80% of the recruit's salary (up to $50,000).

Eligibility

  • The researcher has graduated with an advanced degree (Masters or PhD), preferably, within the last five years and is eligible to work in Canada. Holders of other post-secondary credentials (Bachelors and college diplomas) are also eligible.
  • The applying company will be able to demonstrate that hiring the researcher will enhance their competitive position.

Application Process

Applicants will complete a First Job application with an OCE Business Development Officer. The application will be accompanied by a letter of support from the participating company.
