The initial focus of the Centre will be on commercializing new technology discoveries related to the environment, natural resources and energy; health and related life sciences; and digital media.
First Job
The First Job initiative moves talented people from academia to industry.
It makes it possible for companies to improve their ability to innovate
by recruiting talented young researchers with significant academic experience.
These researchers bring leading-edge scientific knowledge that helps
companies increase their competitiveness and productivity. Successful
applicants receive a grant of 50% of the recruit's salary (up to $40,000);
start-up companies are eligible for a grant of 80% of the recruit's salary
(up to $50,000).
Eligibility
The researcher has graduated with an advanced degree (Masters or PhD), preferably, within the last five years and is eligible to work in Canada. Holders of other post-secondary credentials (Bachelors and college diplomas) are also eligible.
The applying company will be able to demonstrate that hiring the
researcher will enhance their competitive position.
Application Process
Applicants will complete a First Job application with an OCE Business
Development Officer. The application will be accompanied by a letter
of support from the participating company.
