P&P Optica Inc. has developed an innovative optical spectrometer technology that could reduce routine blood analysis costs by up to 70 per cent and greatly accelerate the speed at which routine blood tests are done. The potential savings to the health care sector are astounding.
Using sophisticated instruments that use light to analyze and report on the chemical compounds in blood, P&P Optica’s technology is poised to replace much more complicated, expensive and time consuming blood analysis technologies.
OCE invested $95,000 through its Interact and Collaborative Research programs to help P&P Optica develop its technology through partnerships with the University of Waterloo and the University of Toronto. This was followed by OCE’s Centre for Commercialization of Research (CCR) seeking to match the company with a Vice President of Sales and Marketing to help capture new markets through its Embedded Executive Program.
In April 2010, P&P Optica was awarded a $1.3 million federal government loan to help the company expand and pursue global market opportunities.
“OCE has been providing invaluable guidance. If we have a question that needs to be addressed quickly, we just pick up the phone and call one of our contacts there. They always point us to the right person.” —Olga Pawluczyk, President, P&P Optica Inc.
